A Real Live Superhero!

Hello,

I've been slacking on the blogging lately, so hopefully this week I will have time to make it up to you! Today's post is going to be a follow up to the Thank You post. As I mentioned before, B and I strive to mark every step forward in this process with a gift basket. The gift is usually along the lines of what is coming next. The next step of the process for us is shots, lots of them. With that in mind, we created a thank you gift basket full of goodies to help our super surrogate through the painful injections, and appointments we will be going through. What do you get someone who you can never repay? See our photo below:

Our card detailed them as follows:

1.Vitamins, to make her feel as good as her heart is
2. Fun band aids to put over those painful injections, so she is as fabulous on the outside as she is on the inside. The band aids we selected were designer band aids, and daily affirmations. Because who wouldn't want a compliment on their tush? The band aids say things like "your hair looks great today" or "your breath is super minty."
3. Socks, with a cape, because she's a real life superhero, and her feet will be in the stirrups a lot.
4. Movies, so she can take time to relax, and laugh off all the stupid set backs we have experienced.

Our surrogate in typical humble fashion cried when I gave her our present. She was touched by the words in the card. Words, which are totally, and honestly true. She is a superhero. In spite of my crappy ovaries, and weird heart, this woman has taken it upon herself to allow me to be a mother. Even if this doesn't work, that is an ultimate gift. She is sacrificing her body for our happiness. When you think about superheroes, they all seem strong, or smart, and want to fight for justice, but how many of them have pure hearts? How many of them willingly choose to wear the cape?

To me, it seems that our story is much like a fairy tale, or a superhero story. An ordinary person, receives a set of powers, and wants to do good for the world. The only difference between us and the people in comic books is that our superheroes power is her heart. She is not going to fly people out of a burning building, or build a web to swing from buildings. She doesn't have a cave underground, nor does she have any enemies. If you saw her on the street, she would look ordinary, maybe you wouldn't even notice her. That's the best part of it though, she isn't doing this for glory, or recognition, she is doing it out of love. She doesn't need the fancy cape (even though it's on her socks), she just wants to see us smiling and holding a baby. To me that makes her much more powerful, much more kind, and much better than any superhero that lives on a comic books pages.
