Alright, so if you don't want the juicy deets of all I learned about my body today, then you can stop reading after the first paragraph. If you want to learn more about my weird genetic traits, read the whole thing.
Let's just cut to the chase, today was amazing! They found both my ovaries, and both myself, and our future child are not at high risk for having any major genetic disorder. Cue amazing music here (I'm thinking like chariots of fire). For our story today, I've decided to make it a top 10 list. Just to spice things up.
1. I have a small bladder, like super small. I drank one water bottle and was already floating away. I even used the bathroom (before the hour mark people relax) and I was still full by the time the ultrasound happened. I even had to stop part of the exam to use the bathroom because my bladder was filling up again, even though I had just emptied it!
2. My ovaries are super good at hiding, but I am a superior species, and so is the ultrasound tech. Together we tag teamed to pin the ovaries down and take a picture. I mean this literally, we pinned down my ovaries.
3. I probably have some sort of food allergy, as there was some air in my belly, so I might need to start eating gluten free. That is the only bad news of the day, and I will take it.
4. My friend Kate is in the right field. I met with a genetics counselor today, and she reminded me so much of Kate that it put me at ease right away. It makes me happy to think about all the great things Kate will do, and how right she is for the job she has. :)
5. Sidus inversus (all your organs being flipped) can be linked to pulmonary issues, thankfully mine is not. I did however learn that sidus inversus is caused by the cilia not moving organs the way they are supposed to. As such it is usually an issue with the cilia, which is why people experience pulmonary issues as well. Unless you are me, and you are weird (for once that is a good thing).
6. Because the only things wrong with B is a webbed toe, our child has a 2% chance of having a cardia defect, or sidus inversus (big win).
7. The only way I could have anything wrong reproductively is if I had a mustache and was a man. Since I have neither, I'm ok reproductively (genetically speaking).
8. I really love tacos, I had tacos after the appointment today, and they were amazing.
9. Prayer really does work
10. I love my mother, for serious guys, go hug your mom right now. She was my partner in crime today, and bought me tacos. What more could you want? She really is amazing.
All in all, today was a good day. We just need the official read from the OBGYN and RE on those ovaries of mine, and then we are off to our group psych appointment in two weeks. Chugging along!
Have a Happy Day.
Final Score Ovaries: 1 Ultrasound: 2
Suck it.
PS. This is our 10th post, and I did a top 10 list. See what I did there. Clever.
UPDATE: 3/8/14- Heard from the RE yesterday, ovaries look good and healthy. You can even see baby eggs in them! Now waiting a couple months off BC to have AMH levels rechecked, and continuing with the rest of the process.
